Personal Note
Winning a Toucan Award!

This past weekend I was awarded Volunteer of the Year at the Toucan awards, an award show put on by the Hub of Bakersfield. I can’t believe how far this has made it in a small 10-11 month window. We’re not even a year into TBG!
Thank you for all the support guys. I couldn’t make any of this happen without you. I appreciate you all!
The coolest part is I feel like I’m just getting started. I have so many ideas. If this is something you enjoy or get use from, share it with someone you know. It helps a lot!
Back to your regularly scheduled program!

The Baka Few

Dates and locations for the Baka Few!
This week I stumbled upon a local, Arvin-based, indie rock band. They’re currently touring Kern County, which I think is so cool! Check out their instagram here!
This tour is celebrating the release of their album, The Baka. It is streaming on all major platforms so be sure to check them out!
Let’s help support local musicians!
In The City
Update: Calm Zoo Signatures
I was told by someone familiar with the situation that the petition effort tied to CALM Zoo has officially gathered enough signatures to move forward.
Over the last several weeks, the campaign gained a ton of momentum online and quickly became one of the biggest community conversations in Bakersfield. Regardless of where people stand on the overall issue, it’s been clear how much support and passion the community has for CALM Zoo.
I’ll keep an eye out for official confirmation and updates as more information becomes public.
Population Numbers Have Been Updated
Bakersfield Population Hits 422,853. Bakersfield’s population is now estimated at roughly 422,853 residents, keeping the city ranked as the 9th largest city in California and continuing its steady long term growth trend. The city is now getting closer to Oakland in population size, which currently sits around 440,000 residents depending on the estimate used.
BFL Will Have Direct Flights to LAX
United Airlines BFL to LAX Nonstop Launches August 11. Meadows Field Airport will officially add nonstop United Airlines service to Los Angeles International Airport beginning August 11. The new daily route gives Bakersfield travelers another direct connection option alongside existing United flights to San Francisco and Denver.
This is great because it opens up more possibities to catch flights easier from here and head to an airport that has a connecting flight! Our city just keeps progressing
Taco Bros Returning Downtown

Taco Bros new building on 24th St.
Taco bros is heading home to its roots! Taco Bros first opened downtown, I believe in the parking lot that homes Wells Fargo. They lost the lease, and ultimately were forced out.
I’m happy to see them getting their own location to add to their growing brand!
They will be serving all three of Tacos Bros, Pasta Bowls and Brunch-n-Burger!
