Local Business Spotlight
Astro Dogs——- 1700 Niles St.

I’ve had a really cool point of view when it comes to this local food vendor, Astro Dogs. I usually pass by the corner they’re located at least once a week give or take. I remember years ago I saw a canopy and a flat grill pop up with a table, ready to sell hotdogs. Fast forward a few years later and this is what they look like today, with 2 or 3 tables outside. They’re very popular, and there’s a reason why! I finally got around to trying them for the 2nd time in a few months last week, and let me tell you the double smash burger is DELICIOUS! I need to go back and try their hotdogs, but now I know why I never see their food truck empty! I definitely recommend giving Astro Dogs a try.
Remembering the past. The East Hills Mall
Bakersfield History

The East Hills Mall, 2011 at this time I believe.
Check out a smile compilation of clips I made of the East Hills Mall on my Youtube channel. I’ll be rolling out some extra content on my socials as well which you can locate all of them in my wrap up at the bottom.
What a time to be alive it was. The East Hills Mall had a tremendous amounts of ups and down. I have so many memories in there, like I’m sure so many of my subscribers do. Thinking back about what this place meant to so many of our lives, how many people had jobs, who watched movies here and so on.
The East Hills Mall was built in 1988 and had some big ticket stores that included Mervyn’s, Gottschalks AKA Harris Co. Originally. I remember walking through as a kid and seeing Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Russo’s Book Store, 3D arcade, The Gamstor and so much more. The mall had some ups and a lot of downs, but once Mervy’s and Gottschalks closed down it was only a matter of time before the mall closed entirely.
I would love to hear some found memories you guys had there. Walking with your parents? Taking your kids back to school shopping? Not wanting to leave the arcade? Going to the movies? Let me know please!
I have plenty, but one of my favorite is going shopping with my mom. She would frequent Gottschalks. I went to go to a few stores and when I went back to find her she said she was going in circles and couldn’t find the exit LOL My mom and I laughed about it for years.
Local Kern County Fair Job Fair July 26th.
Local News

I’ve been seeing a lot of people need work in town, and there’s some good news. The Kern County Fair is going to need workers for a few weeks, and they’re hosting a job fair for positions! The job fair will be on Saturday, July 26th from 8AM-3PM at the fair grounds in Building 2.
That’s it for this week.
That’s a wrap on the 6th issue of my newsletter. Thanks again guys, I can’t say it enough.
